Gestión de Proyectos con Precisión: Una Mirada al Framework PREDiCt

In 2012, I joined as a volunteer the student project section of my university that belonged to the chapter of PMI Lima, a decision that has marked my professional career for many years. Without a doubt, being part of this project management community was one of the best choices I made, since it allowed me to delve into a topic that I am passionate about and in which I continue to actively work. More than twelve years after my first contact with PMI, it is gratifying for me to participate in events organized by other chapters, such as Melbourne – Australia, who have recently shared more with us about the PREDiCt framework. Which increases certainty in project management. Today I want to share some of my notes:

  1. The framework is called PREDiCt and its translation would be the Predictive and Retrospective Evaluation of Certainty in Delivery. The framework is designed to be used predictively at different stages of the project, although it can also be applied retrospectively.
  2. PREDiCt has 4 domains: value delivery, ways of working, governance and assurance, and team performance. Likewise, these have 30 subdomains in total.
  3. The framework has Project Beacons as a tool, with which the performance of the project can be tracked through multiple reviews carried out by the team (according to their role in the project) to monitor progress, so that adjustments can be made. necessary to ensure its successful delivery.
  4. Project Beacons has four steps:
    • Assess: Gain the ability to conduct periodic reviews to gain an objective and comprehensive view of project performance based on multiple assessments by key team members.
    • Identify: Uncover critical insights and gain management support with evidence-based reporting that complements traditional status reporting (RAG).
    • Act: By pointing out key areas of concern through insightful leading indicators, Project Beacons empowers you to proactively address potential roadblocks.
    • Deliver: Achieve high confidence in delivery through continuous reviews of project performance, ensuring successful delivery of planned results.
  5. Project Beacons is based on a framework, so it can be done at any stage of the project. Only through continuous and thorough feedback can we address issues as they arise.
  6. The value proposition of Project Beacons is:
    • Identify project problems early.
    • Develop a schedule directed towards Certainty in Delivery.
    • Promote communication and trust within your team.
    • Maximize the value of lessons learned.
    • Improve the transparency of your project.
    • Promote continuous improvement.
    • Complement and strengthen your existing delivery process.
    • Improve the quality of your deliverables.
    • Make decisions based on evidence.
  7. The result of the tool is a dashboard that accumulates the results, a status report to be able to make decisions based on evidence and data that can then be exploited according to the expert judgment of the teams.
  8. We must pay special attention to “watermelon projects” (they report green, but the team considers that they are really red) because they may appear to be in good condition in the reports, but the team may perceive that the status is negative. This discrepancy highlights the importance of addressing concerns early on.
  9. Documenting lessons learned is essential to capitalize on knowledge gained from previous projects. Fortunately, in my professional experience I see with great joy how more and more companies recognize their value and capitalize on them.
  10. Promoting transparency in teams is essential to keep all team members aligned and committed to the project objectives.
